Relational objects

Relational objects were a series of sculptural objects meant to enhance the somatic experience via physical interaction. These objects were created with simple tools and basic materials. Cannibalistic Lobber

Lygia Cannonastic Slobber is a piece crafted with saliva, thread and glue by Lygia. It is a playful, but frightening experience that explores the relationship between the body and unconscious knowledge. Participants are accepted as part a web that surrounds them. This kind of performance was created to open the MoMA. It has since lost importance.

Stone and Air

Lygia Carl's "Stone and Air", which is a sensory object that can be shaped by participants, is called Lygia. The process is similar in nature to childbirth. Participants' somatic experiences become the central character of the proposal. An elastic band was given to the artist to protect her wrist, and she broke it in an episode of personal crisis. The work seems to have healing properties because it replicates the movement that life makes. The stone is filled in air and moves in sync with the participant's breathing.

Pedro e ar

Lygia Clark explored the relationship between objecthood, and the surface during the Neo-Concrete period. Superficies Moduladas, a series she began painting in the 1950s, shows a shift away from her original understanding of the figure/background relation. She became influenced by the notions of the group's spokesman, Ferreira Gullar, but questioned them later. In her subsequent work, she would explore the relationship between the surface and the objecthood.

New Objectivity

Lygia Clar was born in Belo Horizonte Minas Gerais Brazil in 1920. Clark received an artistic education in Rio de Janeiro when she was a young girl. Clark studied under Arpad Szenes, Fernand Leger, and completed an art course in Paris. In 1954, Clark held her first solo exhibit at the Institut Endoplastique. Her art is a rare blend of the aesthetic and sensual.

New Objectivity II

The most well-known and prominent conceptual movement is New Objectivity. Clark has pursued this idea for over 40 years with her art, creating works that challenge conventional perceptions and expectations. Clark spent some time in Paris as a young woman in the 1970s. She studied under Pierre Fedida (a famous psychiatrist). Her investigation process coincided to groundbreaking events all over the world, including those in France in May 1968. Clark became more critical of art institutions over this period and began to view her work as abandoning old art-making methods. In the mid-70s, Clark underwent psychoanalysis with a psychiatrist, Pierre Fedida, but later terminated the therapy.
